The protection and compactness of the rust layer were evaluated by electrochemical analysis, absorption-desorption test, etc. The experimental results indicate that more compact rust layer could be derived from the rust particles with larger size. The well-established notion that the rust particle growth can induce the decrement of corrosion resistance of WS. However, the present investigation shows that the notion might not be universally accurate. The unusual result means that the rust particles might grow anisotropically during corrosion.","authors":[{"authorName":"Ming ZHANG","id":"2286c831-774e-44f1-95da-259348714067","originalAuthorName":"Ming ZHANG"}],"categoryName":"|","doi":"","fpage":"57","id":"cd27a56b-54fe-4852-b36e-0092c0b49772","issue":"1","journal":{"abbrevTitle":"JSXBYWB","coverImgSrc":"journal/img/cover/amse.jpg","id":"49","issnPpub":"1006-7191","publisherId":"JSXBYWB","title":"金属学报(英文版)"},"keywords":[{"id":"04c998e7-8517-40e4-b80a-c1f52fef301a","keyword":"Weathering steel","originalKeyword":"Weathering steel"},{"id":"623e18fc-bd77-436a-bd5e-520121c986b2","keyword":" corrosion","originalKeyword":" corrosion"},{"id":"59b9eca1-5145-4c2f-98a9-921b738b7cd0","keyword":" rust particle","originalKeyword":" rust particle"},{"id":"41c47ba0-7e30-4d10-85ac-a001cbd7ac0d","keyword":" coarsening","originalKeyword":" coarsening"}],"language":"en","publisherId":"1006-7191_2010_1_4","title":"Abnormal relationship between rust particles size and rust layer compactness of weathering steels","volume":"23","year":"2010"},{"abstractinfo":"Seven alloys containing different contents of rhenium and cobalt are investigated to explore systematically the effects of rhenium and cobalt on microstructures and gamma' coarsening. The alloys are exposed to different periods at 950 degrees C and 1050 degrees C. In the alloys containing rhenium, gamma' coarsening is controlled by diffusion. Diffusion coefficient rises with the decreasing of rhenium and the increasing of cobalt. In the alloys containing 4 wt.% Re and Co free, there is TCP phase precipitation when exposed at 1050 degrees C. Additions of 3 wt.% Co to the alloy suppress the formation of TCP phase completely. Co reduces or eliminates the adverse effects of Re. In the Re-free alloys, there is no TCP formation and the coarsening mechanisms are complex. The competition in rate-controlling between diffusion and interface reaction on coarsening kinetics is dependent on the elements and the diffusion behavior. A model describing the process of forming rafts is also established. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. With any given initial grain size distribution and average size and volume fraction of pinning particles as input, the model predicts grain growth kinetics and temporal evolution of the grain size distribution. Simulations are performed for both stable and unstable particle populations with several different initial grain size distributions. It is shown that the kinetics of grain coarsening is sensitive to the initial grain size distribution and pinning force variation as a function of time. Under a constant pinning force (stable particles), the final mean grain size does not vary significantly with different initial grain size distributions, though the kinetics of grain growth differs. On the other hand, a pinning force that decreases with time (associated with, for example, particle dissolution) could induce temporarily abnormal grain coarsening and a wider initial grain size distribution results in an earlier onset of the abnormal grain coarsening and a smaller final grain size.
