Green- emitting phosphors of lanthanum borophosphate doped with Ce3+,Tb3+and Gd3+ have been prepared using BPO4 and rare earth oxides. The spectroscopic properties of Ce3+ ,Tb3+and Gd3+and interaction among them in lanthanum borophosphate have been studied. There exist three kinds of energy transfer of Ce3+→ Gd3+, Gd3+→Tb3+and Ce3+→ Tb3+. The addition of Gd3+ to lanthanum borophosphate doped with Ce3+, Tb3+ leads to a decrease in Ce3+ emission intensity, a sharp increase in 5D4→ 7FJ emission intensity of Tb3+ and no obvious change in 5D3→ 7FJ emission intensity, which is in favor of enhancing intensity and purity of green emission. Compared with lanthanum borophos- phate, gadolinium borophosphate used as the matrix material enhances intensity and purity of lumines- cence, as well as the x value of chromatic coordinates. So the phosphors of La(BO3,PO4):Ce,Tb,Gd and Gd(BO3,PO4):Ce,Tb are the desired materials with green emission.
