The influence of nonionic surfactant, Triton X-100 on the cure behaviors and properties of tetraglycidyl 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl methane (TGDDM) epoxy with 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl sulphone (DDS) was studied with thermal analytical methods. Non-isothermal cure kinetics of differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) showed that 1% surfactant exerts acceleration effect on the cure reaction of the epoxy, while 10% surfactant hinders the cure reaction. However, it showed that all surfactants hinder the cure reaction of the epoxy during the isothermal curing. The results of thermogravimetric analyser (TGA) showed that the incorporation of surfactants has little effect on the thermal stability of the epoxy. Using dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMA), it was determined that the surfactant acts as a plasticizer and is miscible with the epoxy system. The storage modulus decreases with the addition of surfactant and the glass transition temperature drops with the increasing of surfactant contents.
