目前有4种方法可以将金属附着在塑料表面.一种是使用离子钯的工艺,由于工序短,产生的废物少,理应可以成为现实的选择,但遗憾的是最佳工艺范围(工艺窗)不宽,这就意味着该工艺废品率高.第二种方法是采用胶体钯的工艺,其工序较长,但可靠性却大大提高.还有一种是对胶体钯这种相当古老的工艺进行改进,能够在塑料上直接电镀,而无须经化学镀金属工序的方法.第4种是一种完全不同的方法,专门用于聚酰胺电镀.90%以上的ABS塑料电镀件都是用于卫浴或汽车工业,并且分别有各自的要求.汽车工业关注的主要是其耐蚀性能.聚酰胺电镀在汽车工业上的应用数量不断增加,而且这种应用在未来将有不断增长的趋势.

Today,four main possibilities exist to put metal on a plastic surface adhesively. One process which makes use of ionic palladium would be the real choice because it is very short and produces less waste, but unfortunately it's process window is not wide which means that the reject rate from this process is high. Using colloidal palladium make the process longer but by far more reliable. A modification of this quite old process is even able to do a direct plating without making use of an electro-less metal depositing step. Completely different is the fourth sequence used for the plating of polyamides. More than 90% of plated ABS-based material is used either in the sanitary industry or in the automotive industry. Both have their demands, the automotive industry being mainly concerned about corrosion resistance. An increasing amount of plated polyamide is used in this industry and there is a tendency that this application will increase in the future.
