The morphology of fracture surfaces and mechanical properties of coir/impact copolymer polypropylene(IPC) were studied by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and an universal testing machine.Stress-strain curves of the composites were fit using Gaussian function, and the mathematical expressions were obtained. The toughness modulus of the materials was obtained by calculating the area under the curves. The results show that the maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene(MAH-g-PP) compatibilizer makes a significantly better improvement on the mechanical properties of the composites than the titanate coupling agent. And the composite modified with titanate coupling agent has better mechanical properties than that without interface modification.SEM analysis show that the interfacial bond of the composite modified with MAH-g-PP is much better than the composite modified with the titanate coupling agent, and that is the radical reason why the mechanical properties of composites are improved.
