The crystal structure of the compound Ca3La3(BO3)(5) refined from powder XRD data has space group P6(3)mc with cell parameters a = 10.5319(3) Angstrom, c = 6.4077(1) Angstrom and z = 2. The structure consists of a three-dimensional network made up of BO3 triangles as well as irregular oxygen polyhedra of lanthanum and calcium atoms. The infrared spectra (IR) of this Compound have been investigated and confirm that the boron atoms have three-fold coordination. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) revealed that a reversible decomposition reaction takes place in Ca3La3(BO3)(5) at 1165 degreesC and it completely melts above 1300 degreesC.
