The immiscibility of polymer blends results in products with inferior properties than the average of the base polymers. Research on compatibilizer is particularly valuable. Epoxy has been demonstrated as a low cost and high chemical reactivity compatibilizer, it has a bright future in increase the strength and toughness of polymer blends at the same time. In this paper, the mechanism of compatibilization using epoxy in blends and the effect of epoxy on the properties of blends were reviewed, and the chemical reactions they undergo during melt blending were presented. An appropriate quantitative epoxy can improve the rheological, thermal and mechanical properties of blends. The future trend of epoxy compatibilizer was also suggested.
