Since their development in the early 1970's, platinu m modified aluminide coatings have been recognized for their superior oxidation and hot corrosion resistance for nickel based superalloys. This paper presents a brief review of the development history of the platinum aluminide coating syste m, discusses the various coating morphologies observed. The future work are focu s on the Pt diffusional mechanism in coatings.
