low density polyethylene(LDPE) /glass antimicrobial agent(IONPURE) system was prepared by twin screw extruder. The silver ion release characteristics of these composites was measured by anode stripping voltammetry. The melting behaviour of the composites were evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), the crystallinity and crystalline morphology of LDPE were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and polarization microscope(POM).The results indicate that the crystallinity of LDPE increases at first and then decreases a little with the addition of Ag~+ antimicrobial agents. And also the crystal size of LDPE is reduced. On the other hand, the crystallinity of LDPE matrix plays an important role on the Ag~+ release from the antimicrobial agents.Higher crystallinity of LDPE results in lower rate of Ag~+ release and the effect of LDPE crystallinity on the Ag~+ release process becomes more evident along with time.
