Numerical Simulation of Superplastic Forming and Diffusion Bonding of Ti Alloys

The research on numerical simulation for combinative process of SPF/DB is carried out in this paper. The contacting problem of sheets is analyzed by using the penalty method. In order to solve the contact problem of different parts of the sheet, a new algorithm for contacting judgment is proposed. According to the relation of the distance vector and the vector of contacting element area, and the condition of contact, it can be judged whether or not a node on the slave surface and the corresponding master surface are in the state of SPF/DB. The Mindlin shell element is employed to simulate SPF/DB process of an asymmetry double-cell cup of Ti-6Al-4V to examine the efficiency of the new algorithm using ARVIP-3D. The results of the numerical simulation are in good agreement with experimental results.

Finite-Element Simulation and Experimental Research of the Hot-Press Sintering of Nano-Sized Ceramic Powders

Numerical simulation of hot-press sintering of nano-sized ceramic powders was introduced by the commercial finite element code MSC.MARC. The powder plastic model and the thermo-mechanical coupled quadrilateral element were developed and adopted in the simulation. The mechanical and thermal properties of the nano-sized alumina based powders were determined. In addition, the experimental research and numerical simulation of the sintering process of different initial densities were carried out. The stress state in sintering of green compacts with different initial densities was analyzed by the densification theory. The reason for the density fluctuations of as-sintered ceramic bulks was found out.

Superplastic forming and diffusion bonding (SPF/DB) is a well-established process for the manufacture of components almost exclusively from Ti-6Al-4V sheet material. The sandwich structure of Ti-6Al-4V alloy is investigated. The effects of the microstructure on the SPF/DB process were discussed. The microstructure at the interfaces and the distribution of thickness were researched.

Microstructural and Microhardness Variation of Amorphous Fe78Si9B13 Alloy during Bend Stress Relaxation

The amorphous Fe78Si9B13 ribbons were bend stress relaxed at various temperature well below the crystallization temperature (Tx) for different time. The effect of pre-annealing on the subsequent bend stress relaxation was examined. The variation of the microstructure and microhardness during bend stress relaxation process was studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Vickers microhardness test, respectively. Curvature radius of the amorphous Fe78Si9B13 ribbons decreased with increase bend stress relaxation temperature and time. The microhardness of the stress relaxed specimens increased with time at 300℃ due to the forming of nanocrystals during bend stress relaxation. The pre-annealing reduced the decrease rate of the curvature radius of stress relaxed specimens.

Cavitation Behavior during Superplastic Deformation of AZ31 Magnesium Alloy

Superplasticity of AZ31 Mg alloy at the temperature range of 250~450℃ and stain rate range of 0.7×10-3~1.4×10-1 s-1 was examined through uniaxial tensile test. Optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were employed to investigate the morphology of cavities and surface relief near fracture surface, respectively. It is shown that AZ31 Mg alloy starts to exhibit superplasticity from 300℃. The maximum elongation of 362.5% was obtained at 400℃ and strain rate of 0.7×10-3 s-1. There exist many O-shaped cavities and filaments at the boundaries near fracture surface. The fracture of filaments results in intergranular cavity and the model for the formation of intergranular cavities is proposed. The growth of cavities is plasticity-controlled and the serrated boundaries of intergranular cavities agree with the results of surface relieves.

Measures of Decreasing Blast Furnace Fuel Consumption and Improving Sinter Performance in Guofeng

To further decrease the fuel consumption of blast furnace in Tangshan Guofeng Iron and Steel Co Ltd, measures of improving the quality of sinter and pellet and the performances of raw materials were put forward through phase analysis and physical and chemical performance testing. The measures of increasing the grade of sinter, decreasing the sinter reduction degradation index at low temperature, and increasing the sinter soft melt performance at elevated temperature, as well as the reasonable process parameters of sintering were described in detail.

Nanoscale Morphology in Tensile Fracture of a Brittle Amorphous Ribbon

The paper reports on the observation of nanoscale morphology on the tensile fracture surface of a brittle amorphous Fe-based ribbon. The formation of nanoscale damage cavity structure is a main characteristic morphology on the fracture surfaces. Approaching the ribbon boundary, these damage cavities assemble and form the nanoscale periodic corrugations, which are neither Wallner lines nor crack front waves. The periodic corrugations result from the interactions between the reflected elastic waves by the boundaries of amorphous ribbon and the stress fields of the crack tip.

Two-step magnetization in a spin-chain system on the triangular lattice: Wang-Landau simulation

The Wang-Landau algorithm is used to study the thermodynamic and magnetic properties of triangular spin-chain system based on two-dimensional Ising model in order to understand the magnetic-order dynamics in Ca(3)Co(2)O(6) compound. The calculated results demonstrate that the equilibrium state of the rigid spins produces the two-step magnetization curve at low temperature even when the random-exchange term is considered. This work indicates that the four-step magnetization behavior observed experimentally must be due to the nonequilibrium magnetization.

The morphology of the dark and bright regions observed by transmission electron microscopy for the Zr(64.13)Cu(15.75)Ni(10.12)Al(10) bulk metallic glass strongly depends on the ion beam parameters used for ion milling. This indicates that the ion beam could introduce surface fluctuation to metallic glasses during ion milling.
